Casting of resin statue FC Utrecht
About the project
Resin sculpture by Mark van der Maarel: A unique work of art cast by Reszto
Commissioned by artist Jelle Geertsma, the Utrecht company Reszto has cast a special resin sculpture of the sculpted head of soccer player Mark van der Maarel. The sculpture, a tribute to the footballer's long career, was donated at his farewell match by FC Utrecht' s supporters association SVFCU and is a beautiful symbol of appreciation.
The resin sculpture itself was made with extreme precision and craftsmanship, with the details of Van der Maarel's face perfectly rendered by Jelle Geertsma. Reszto was able to reproduce all the details of the sculpture beautifully using a silicone rubber mold. The artwork was then cast twice in a casting mortar of resin with marble powder to create a stony and strong material. One model was given to the FC Utrecht player and the other head will get a special place in stadium Galgenwaard.
What makes this resin sculpture extra special is the pedestal. This is not just a standard pedestal, but a unique combination of art and history. This is because the pedestal is made with real stone taken from the iconic Domtower in Utrecht. This addition makes the artwork even more connected to the city and its rich history.
With this, Reszto has created a reproduction that is both artistically and symbolically of great value. The resin statue of Mark van der Maarel is a must-see in the stadium for any FC Utrecht fan.
