What materials can you use to cast objects and sculptures?

We work with a wide range of high-quality casting materials. Depending on the application (indoor or outdoor) and the desired look, we can cast using materials such as synthetic resin composites (like epoxy and polyester), AcrylicOne (A1), concrete, and restoration mortars. Techniques such as bronzing sculptures are also among the options available.

How do you ensure that the details of the original aren't lost?

For reproduction, we use flexible, high-quality silicone molds. These molds fit the original object perfectly, ensuring that even the smallest surface textures and finest details are accurately reproduced on the new replica.

What if the original statue or ornament is severely damaged?

No problem. Our expertise lies in combining restoration and reproduction. We can first expertly restore a damaged object using traditional craftsmanship or digitally reconstruct it, and only then create a mold for a perfect, restored reproduction.

Is it possible to have a series of sculptures or replicas cast?

Yes, we produce both unique one-of-a-kind pieces and complete series of replicas. Because the silicone molds we make are very durable, they can be used many times in a row to produce a consistent run of pieces for artists, museums, or project developers.

Can you also make replicas without needing a physical mold?

Yes, for highly complex works of art, fragile historical objects, or purely digital designs, we use modern 3D scanning, 3D modeling, and 3D printing techniques. This allows us to accurately reproduce objects or scale them to a different size without physically damaging the original.

Are the reproduced ornaments and sculptures suitable for outdoor use?

Yes, thanks to the use of weather-resistant materials such as polyester composite, concrete, and specific synthetic resins, our reproductions are highly resistant to changing weather conditions. This makes them ideal for facade ornaments and outdoor sculptures.

Do you work only in the studio, or do you also work on location?

We have a fully equipped workshop in Utrecht, but for historic buildings or objects that cannot be moved, we also come to your location to, for example, make molds of facade ornaments.

When do you choose 3D printing over a traditional mold?

3D printing is the ideal choice when a historical object is too fragile to be physically coated with moldable clay or silicone. Our 3D printing service also offers a solution when the object needs to be digitally scaled (enlarged or reduced) or when only a digital CAD drawing is available.

How large and how detailed can you make your 3D prints?

Our state-of-the-art large-format 3D printers deliver an extremely high level of detail and accuracy. Thanks to advanced techniques, we can produce large objects very quickly; we print large parts up to 1 meter in height every 24 hours. If necessary, larger projects can be printed in perfectly fitting parts and seamlessly assembled.

What kind of post-processing do the 3D prints undergo?

After an object is printed in resin or another filament, it undergoes intensive post-processing in our workshop in Nieuwegein. We remove any print supports, sand the surface until it is completely smooth, and often reinforce the interior of large prints with epoxy and PU foam for optimal structural strength. Finally, the object is finished with a durable two-component coating or paint.

What does the restoration process for a historic ornament or statue look like?

Every project begins with a thorough inspection of the damage. If the material has been weakened by age or moisture, we first apply an impregnation treatment to reinforce the original substrate. We then restore the missing parts—either by traditionally filling them with restoration mortars or through digital 3D reconstruction. Finally, we restore the original paintwork or finish to its former glory.

Can you restore the ornaments on the building's facade on-site?

Yes, we regularly restore historic objects directly on site, for example on historic buildings in cities such as Utrecht, Amsterdam, and Haarlem. If the damage is too complex for on-site treatment, we create a silicone mold of the damaged facade ornament on site and then skillfully cast and finish the replica in the controlled environment of our studio.

What happens to the original artwork after restoration?

That’s up to you. A popular, sustainable solution (as we did for the Blaauwe Haan project) is to display the fragile, restored original in a safe setting (such as a museum or corporate headquarters). We then install an exact, weather-resistant replica on the exposed exterior facade or wall—one that will last for decades.

My name isNiels Janszen. I have been working with molds, casting techniques, restoration, and the reproduction of sculptures and objects for over 27 years.

Reszto was founded in 2009. Over the years, we have worked on a wide variety of projects, including for TeylersMuseum , the City of Ghent, and FC Utrecht.

We combine that experience with modern techniques such as 3D scanning, 3D modeling, and 3D printing.

From the original to the final result

Many projects start with an existing object. We can restore it, reconstruct it, or use it to make a precise mold.

Reproductions can then be made from that mold using materials such assynthetic resin, composite, AcrylicOne, or concrete.

The final step is often just as important: the finishing touches. Using color, patina, aging, or a metal coating, we ensure that a reproduction captures the look and character of the original.
