Erato statue Ghent
About the project
Completed this fantastic project in late 2023, making a reproduction of the Erato statue in Ghent.
Renotec commissioned me to reconstruct the Erato statue in Ghent using old photographs and drawings.
The statue last stood on the kiosk in the Citadel Park in Ghent some 100 years ago .
The gazebo was in bad shape and was being completely restored, so the Muse Erato could not be left out.
With the original photos, I had a 3D design made which had to be compared with the original angel statues that were still present.
This 3D design, after approval, was printed out in resin in several parts so that everything could be printed out in the large printers.
The entire statue was printed within 24 hours!
Inside, space was left for a metal structure to attach the sculpture to the roof of the kiosk.
Designed so that a solid structure was created and fabricated in galvanized steel so that the sculpture is securely anchored to the roof.
All loose parts were glued to the metal construction with epoxy and sanded so that no glue joints were visible. Then the fragile parts were filled with epoxy and the rest with a hard PU foam To make the sculpture even more durable, the model was finished with a strong Polyurea layer and finished in the yellow color according to the rest of the ornamentation.
The result is impressive and now adorns the totally restored kiosk in the Citadel Park in Ghent. A wonderful collaboration between various parties with an amazing result.
