Vondelpark fountain ornament

About the project

Reszto was commissioned by Walraad architects to create a model and reproduction of a new crucifer .

This model wasstolen from the drinking fountain in the Vondelpark once designed by the famous architect Cuypers. In 2009 the fountain was redrawn in its entirety using old photographs and reinstalled by Walraad architects, this time in Chinese bluestone.

The finial was first carved by sculptor Koen van Velzen from a new drawing made by Mr. Jan Willem Walraad.

From this natural stone model , Reszto made a silicone mold and poured a reproduction in it. This reproduction of artificial stone had to match the color of the bluestone fountain. By adding pigments and blasting the surface a perfect matching color was created.

A total of two reproductions were made, one model is stored as a spare at the City of Amsterdam. In case the new copy is stolen or damaged again.

The new finial has since been installed by Boersma Natuursteen and crowns the fountain again in Vondel Park.
