Reproduction of the St. Anthony statue
About the project
For Bouwbedrijf v/d Ven from Veghel, Reszto made a reproduction of the statue of St. Antonius.
The old statue was in poor condition, the limestone no longer had a good bond and was slowly falling apart. Several parts were no longer present or had broken off. Parts were lifted with the restoration mortar Monulit, so that a complete whole was created again. It was also impregnated with a stone stiffener so that the limestone regained some more bond.
After restoring the missing parts, Reszto fabricated a silicone mold of the life-size sculpture. The rubber mold was supported with a fiberglass reinforced exterior to hold the parts in place.
The reproduction was made in the mold from a composite artificial stone conforming to the color of new limestone. This was given the same weathered surface as the original sculpture due to the precise mold.
The reproduced statue was reinstalled in a chapel in the Nieuwstraat in Breda where Hotel Nassau was located.
The reproduced statue of St. Anthony can now be admired there again in a niche.
