Banisters and ornaments in Amsterdam
About the project
By order of van Kessel Bouw , Reszto recreated several ornaments in Amsterdam.
For a monumental building on the Herengracht, part of a modern staircase had to be restored to its original state.
The existing staircase was partially demolished and in its place came a historic-looking staircase, the same as the floor below.
Since all the original ornaments were wood carved, it became too costly to have the new models also made in wood. Therefore, Reszto was brought in for the reproduction of these ornaments and banisters.
We made silicone molds of the step ornaments and stair risers and cast new models in a tough and impact-resistant synthetic resin. This synthetic resin was combined with a threaded rod through the entire stair post to make it even more solid.
The newly cast ornaments were put back into the new staircase and later painted so that no difference was visible between the original and copy. In the end it turned out to be a beautiful staircase brought back to the original. A very nice job to work on!
